FOREVER KNIGHT hit many roadblocks when it came to season 3 and various other factors added up to it's cancellation. Actors were dropped while other characters were created due to demands from USA network. Then some markets were airing the third season in syndication before USA Network started airing it. Then USA switched the time slot after a few months (where it met a quick cancellation after boxing fans complained that their Tuesday Night fights were cut down from two hours to one). USA Network would keep repeating the same episodes aired before in the late night slot while new episodes still aired in the few syndicated markets left for FORVER KNIGHT.

A few of the changes to the show involved Nick's old partner, Schanke, being killed off in a plane explosion in the season opener (the two part BLACK BUDDHA) and giving him a female parter, Detective Tracey Vetter (Lisa Ryder who would later play Beka Valentine on ANDROMEDA). Nick Knight (Geraint Wyn Davies) is a 800 year old vampire working the night shift as a homicide detective for the Toronto police department. His ally is Natalie, who works at the morgue. Nick wants to be human again, but LaCroix (Nigel Bennett) wants Nick to see the errors of his way and give up his quest of becoming mortal. For this season, LaCroix (the one who brought Nick across) comes across more as an eccentric father figure who now runs the Raven night club (that used to be run by fellow vampire Janette). LaCroix does still have his moments. Geraint Wyn Davies does direct a few episodes during the season (including BLACK BUDDHA) and Nigel Bennett even directs again (FRANCESCA).

Tracey doesn't know Nick is a vampire, but she has her own vampire friend, Vachon (Ben Bass). I thought Vachon never really worked as a character. He came across as a bum too much and never had the same human qualities as Nick. Season 3 had many below average episodes. Most of the stand out episodes happened during the last half of the season (when the creators knew the writing was on the wall and the changes were quite working). Still if the episode was bad, the flashback storylines were on the mark. The best episodes of the season are SONS OF ELIAL, STRINGS, THE HUMAN FACTOR (where Janette returns), AVENGING ANGEL, and ASHES TO ASHES (the best episode of the season and one of the best of the entire season). FOREVER KNIGHT would have ended on a high note if ASHES TO ASHES was the last episode, but the series finale is one of the worst. LAST KNIGHT is one of those episodes FK fans hate with a passion and wish it never existed at all. Nick's final fate does match up with what was predicted in season 2, but the episode is bitter pill.

VIDEO: 1.33:1 (Full Frame)

Video grain is present in most of the episodes (the most shows up on disc 5). The mastering of the episodes is a step down from the improvements that SPHE made from transferring season 2 to DVD compared to the job they did for season 1.

AUDIO: English 2.0 Stereo

Subtitles: English Close Captioning

Dialogue and all sound elements come through clearly. Surround action isn't impressive at all.

SPECIAL FEATURES: The three music videos were created by a Forever Knight fan, but I rather have the deleted scenes one of the show's writers offered. Even the creators of the show wanted to offer deleted scenes. It all came down to the scenes not being included due to legal reasons. FOREVER KNIGHT on DVD always gets the shaft one way or another when it comes to extras. They have a gag reel, but it will never be on the DVDs or the deleted scenes. It would have been nice to have more audio commentaries (like the ones they did for season 2). I wanted to know why they decided to end the show with LAST KNIGHT which many FK fans hate. The only other extra besides the music videos are previews for KINGDOM HOSPITAL, ULTRAVIOLET, HELLBOY, and UNDERWORLD: EVOLUTION; and a four page episode guide.

FINAL ANALYSIS: This DVD set is for the fans of FOREVER KNIGHT period. I do wish SPHE included more extras for this third and final season. I am glad they finished the trilogy and released the third season to DVD finally.
