Connor (Sean Patrick Flannery) and Murphy (Norman Reedus), the McManus Brothers, come out of hiding from Ireland where they have been staying with their dad, Il Duce (Billy Connolly), when a priest is murdered in Boston.   Someone tried to make it look like the Saints did it.  Connor and Murphy work their way through the mob to get the ones responsible with a little help from Romeo (Clifton Collins, Jr), a Mexican.  Hot on their trail is a sexy (takes no bull) FBI agent, Eunice Bloom (Julie Benz).   THE BOONDOCK SAINTS II: ALL SAINTS DAY is a stylish wave of violence laced with humor and plenty of swearing.   It is an entertaining ride.   I love Eunice Bloom-I love her character’s style.   Bloom’s style fits in with the swearing and aggression of the McManus brothers.  I like the bickering between Connor and Murphy- the bit about the rope is outstanding.   It helps flesh out the origin of Il Duce while setting the stage for a third BOONDOCK SANITS which must be made.  Writer/ Director Troy Duffy can’t leave fans hanging this time.  If a sequel was never made, THE BOONDOCK SAINTS would have stood as a wonderful little cult film that has plenty of fans, but the sequel raises the bar and it will be a damn shame if we have to wait another 10 years for the third one.

The Director's Cut has about  minutes extra footage put back into the film, but the original theatrical cut is also included in this two disc release.   The Director's Cut includes a longer opening sequence, a lengthened fantasy sequence and an extended elevator sequence leading up to the Prudential shoot-out.  I don't see how the extended mterial really adds anything to the sequel.  Maybe it is just one of those movies done by Troy Duffy to keep interest in THE BOONDOCK SAINTS as he is trying to make a third film and a TV series.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

Two audio commentaries are on the disc- the first with Troy Duffy, Sean Patrick Flannery, Norman Reedus, and Billy Connolly while the second track is with Duffy and Willem Dafoe.

The two deleted scenes were rightfully cut with the first scene softening the character of Eunice Bloom (and it subtracts from her character).  UNPRECEDENTED ACCESS is a 25 minute behind-the-scenes featurette that takes an unparalleled look at the production of the film that features interview with cast and crew (with Troy Duffy taking front and center).  BILLY CONNOLLY & TROY DUFFY: UNEDITED has Billy and Troy recall their first meeting when Troy wanted Billy as Il Duce.

INSIDE THE VAULT: THE WEAPONS- The weapons guy on the film goes over the various weapons used in the sequel and mentions how Troy was instrumental in choosing specific guns for characters.

THE CAST CONFESSES: SECRETS FROM THE SET- interviews with the cast as they talk about their characters

THE BOONDOCK SAINTS HIT COMIC-CON- The cast and the director descend upon San Diego Comic-Con and the entire panel is presented on the disc.

Extras new to the Director’s Cut Blu-ray:

SAINTS OFF SCRIPT-

BACK TO BOONDOCK- a behind-the-scenes look at the six week pre-production process leading up to the production of the sequel.

FINAL ANALYSIS:   The sequel to THE BOONDOCK SAINTS will have fans embracing the saints and pray for a third one soon.  Too bad SPHE didn’t include the theatrical trailers.
