Gunja, a female special ops agent with the Royal Thai Police, is recruited to join Claire (a CIA agent) to track down
and kill an Al-Qaeda. The mission is to close Project Vanquisher and leave no witnesses or team members. An explosion
kills Gunja's team members and yet she survives. She returns to Bangkok and becomes a lieutentant in the polcie force.
Two years later, she crosses paths with Claire again and find her life in danger as Claire is planning something that she
can pin on suicide bombers.
VANQUISHER is Thailand trying to cash in on the Asian action movie craze. It only halfway succeeds. The first
half of the movie just drags and most of the actors don't know how to act when they speak English (I laughed when the villainess
screws up her English usage- it should be Danger and not Dangers for example). The second half is much better
where the three top actresses are in some nicely directed and choreographed action sequences where the fourth female actress
(the Japanese agent who weilds a katana) suffers due to too much cutting away from she is doing in the sequences.
Gunja and the Thai Captain fight ninja after ninja where I will alwys refer to VANQUISHER as the Ninja Cannon Fodder movie
where more ninjas keep coming when you keep killing them.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
The Internation trailer is included on the disc in addition to two featurettes: TEH MAKING OF VANQUISHER and a behind-the-scenes
featurette. The problem I had with the featurettes is that they ended up being in Pip size (and not filling up the frame)
on the BD-ROM that I played them on.
FINAL ANALYSIS: You will enjoy the action in the second half of the film if you can make it through the first half
which is very sluggish. Also VANQUISHER could have used a better script.
