13 HOURS chronicles the true story of the secret military contractors of the GRS tasked with protecting the CIA agents in Benghazi, Libya when they must try to rescue the American ambassador and survive the night during an intense 13 hour fight for survival.  Director Michael Bay seems much more at home at capturing the intense action and stunts in 13 HOURS than he does in any of the CGI overload of the TRANSFORMERS movies (which I did enjoy even though I wish I could see another director tackle the franchise than Bay).

SPECIAL FEATURES:

No extras on disc 1 of the release, but I wish there was an audio commentary for the movie

Disc 2 has over 60 minutes of featurettes focusing on the real private soldiers portrayed in the movie and the making of the movie itself

FOR THE RECORD: FINDING THE TRUTH AMONG THE NOISE-

UNCOVERING BENGHAZI’S SECRET SOLDIERS- meet the real life ex-military soldiers who lived through the events portrayed in the movie and also hear from the cast and crew as they talk about these real life people (and their experiences interacting with them during the making of the movie)

PREPARING FOR BATTLE: BEHIND THE SCENES OF 13 HOURS- interviews with cast and crew are intermixed with behind-the-scenes footage, footage of the pre-production boot camp for the actors, and clips from the movie give a look at the care taken in making 13 HOURS

OPERATION: 13 HOURS PREMIERE- a look at the movie’s premiere at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas

IN MEMORIUM is a tribute to the people who lost their lives during those tense 13 hours in Benghazi

Also included in this combo pack is the movie in standard definition on DVD and a code to download and/or stream a digital HD copy of 13 HOURS.

FINAL ANALYSIS:  13 HOURS in an intense survival tale which is a great true story to watch with plenty of great action scenes and you also care for the characters more than you would in any of the TRANSFORMERS movies that Michael Bay has directed.   I wish Paramount could get Michael bay to bring great writing like this to the TRANSFORMERS movies.  One of Michael Bay’s bets jobs as a director is seen through this movie.   The extras are good despite I would have loved an audio commentary from Bay and screenwriter Chuck Hogan or even a commentary track with the real soldiers of this movie.
