HOMELAND continues to evolve and tie in with the times and fears of the current political and war on terror climate. In some moments of the sixth season, it made me wish there was a crossover between HOMELAND and 24 as some of the action sequences feel like some of the best action moments in 24.

Former CIA agent Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) gets swept up in the aftereffects of the US Presidential election in the weeks leading up to the inauguration of the first female United States President which the alt right and the military/ counterintelligence establishment don't like as a plan is set forth to discredit the new Madam President Elect. Meanwhile Carrie is involved with trying to clear a Muslim man who the FBI is trying to entrap for inciting terrorist acts with hate speech. She is also guilty over what was done to former CIA assassin Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) who is ravaged form his injuries suffered from being exposed to a nerve gas in Berlin a year ago and Carrie requesting they wake Quinn early from a coma because he might have had info on a terror attack being staged in Berlin. Also Carrie's former mentor Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) is becoming increasing suspicious of the evidence being presented by Mossad that Iran is backing out of the nuclear deal and doing a parallel program with North Korea.

Season six follows up on the consequences of what happened in season five and the actions of the characters set the stage for the next season when it is all said and done. HOMELAND is very timely as it looks at the police state that the United States may be turning into more and more while the military industrial complex fights change as they want to maintain what they think should be the status quo to justify their existence. The season is also a conspiracy thriller as it mixes in the alt-right media causing a stir and the use of bots to create fictional internet users to drive the news and comments on certain things on the internet.

FINAL ANALYSIS: I loved the sixth season of HOMELAND more than I liked season five. It manages to be a timely conspiracy thriller with commentary on the United States from how counter-terrorism is handled to fake news to politics with the military and national intelligence trying to maintain the hold of the current status quo. I do wish there were more extras like some of the early season releases, but I can't wait to see how the seventh season turns out.

PS I do wish they could do a HOMELAND/ 24 crossover.
