Low level loser criminal John (Anton Tennet) dreams of getting out of the dead-end town of Thames, New Zealand, and the opportunity seems to come when he decides to rip off his boss Shelton (Jonny Brugh) after ripping off a local Chinese antiques store which is involved with the Chinese Triads. He also manages to grab this ancient Chinese amulet which the store's owner warns him of the legend of an ancient Chinese demon coming for John if he uses the amulet. After escaping certain death from Shelton and his gang, John discovers the amulet allows him to go back in time a few minutes. He then decides to stop other versions of himself from disappearing and he forms a gang of multiple versions of himself with the goal of taking the stolen cash from Shelton and getting the girl John likes.

MEGA TIME SQUAD is a wacky low budget New Zealand comedy. It sets up the rules and runs with it like a stupid egomaniac lunatic. It goes at a decent pace and manages to make it believable to have multiple versions of the same actor in the same shot (which the director did by not moving the camera too much and have it pretty much static for most of the scenes). Writer/ Director Tim Van Dammen creates an enjoyable heist comedy with mystical time travel and a bunch of characters who are a bunch of jerks except for the possible girlfriend.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
Audio commentary with writer/ director Tim Van Dammen goes over what inspired him to write and make this movie, how they came across locations used, and how the movie was made.

Also on the DVD are an alternate opening and 10 deleted scenes which were cut for pacing and clarity. The theatrical trailer is also included.

FINAL ANALYSIS: MEGA TIME SQUAD is a wacky time travel heist story which is at least deserving of a rental. I wonder what Tim Van Dammen can do with a bigger budget and will try to look out for whatever movie he makes next.
