Forrest Tucker (Robert Redford) was a man who robbed banks all his life and escaped from prison 16 times. This is the mostly true story happening near the end of his life as Texas robbery detective John Hunt (Casey Affleck) wants to catch this gentleman robber. Along the way, Forrest meets a widow named Jewel (Sissy Spacek).

THE OLD MAN AND THE GUN is the movie where Robert Redford said he was retiring from acting after this one because he wanted to go out on a high. It has a classic feeling to the type of movie you would see in the 1970s in theaters. The characters and the details are wonderful as this movie manages to juggle the story between Tucker and Hunt. It is one of the better movies that Robert Redford had starred in.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
EVERYTHING ELSE WE SHOT is a nine minute selection of deleted scenes while PRISON CATS is another deleted scene
ON FILMMAKING is a conversation between Robert Redford and director David Lowery about film making and how the movie had so many people from the Sundance Production Labs as part of the crew
31 WAKE-UPS is six minutes of B roll footage
JOINING THE HUNT is an interview with the real John Hunt

Audio commentary with writer/ director David Lowery
Two theatrical trailers done in 1960s/ 1970s vintage style

Sneak Peek previews for CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME?, THE FAVOURITE, WIDOWS, THE SISTERS BROTHERS, THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSISSIPPI, and THE SHAPE OF WATER in addition to a Tobacco PSA

FINAL ANALYSIS: If Robert Redford never acts again, this is the best movie to end his career on. THE OLD MAN AND THE GUN is a classic movie that the 1970s never had. The extras are good and you should check out the deleted material and the two interview featurettes (you can skip 31 WAKE-UPS).
