The second half of the first season of OUTLANDER picks up a little before the cliffhanger of episode 8 to show things from Jamie’s point of view and second half of the first season is a roller coaster of action, adventure, drama, and romance woven with history and detail.   Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) settle into married life after Claire’s rescue from Captain “Blackjack” Randall, but their married bliss is interrupted by the British and others as Captain Randall is out to find Jamie again.   Dian Gabaldon’s OUTLANDER continues to be realized in this beautiful TV adaptation for Starz as it weaves history with fiction.  I can’t wait for season 2 which premieres somewhere in 2016.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

Podcast commentaries are included for every episode.

Extended version of THE RECKONING (DISC 1) which runs 15 minutes longer before they had to cut the episode down to fit the one hour broadcast slot and it also features an introduction by Ronald D. Moore

DISC 2 extras:

DIANA GABALDON TOURS OUTLANDER-

OUTLANDER CAST & CREW TABLE READ- about six minutes of the table read of the third episode of season one

A TRIANGLE IN TIME- author Diana Gabaldon, producer Ronald D. Moore, and the cast discuss the triangle between Jamie, Claire, and Frank/ Blackjack Randall

WEAVING AUTHENTIC: MAKING THE FABRICS OF OUTLANDER- a behind-the-scenes look at how they create and weave the kilts of OUTLANDER

Ten deleted scenes with introductions by Ronald D. Moore with two scenes between Collum and the lawyer which were sadly cut

Gag reel of laughing, stumbles, swearing, and the actress who plays Claire wanting coffee

The two discs are in a booklet case with 32 pages of photos and quotes from the second half of season 1

FINAL ANALYSIS: Too bad it will be a while before season 2 hits blu-ray because season 1 is a thrilling romantic adventure where everyone will find something to enjoy in OUTLANDER whether it is the romance, history, drama, or action.   The extras are good and even the extended version of THE RECKONING.
