What if the Nazis won the Battle of Britain and most of England is under German occupation 18 months later? SS-GB starts off with that alternate history tangent and weaves a murder mystery as Detective Superintendent Douglas Archer (Sam Riley) investigates a murder that happened at a British Resistance safe house. Usually, Scotland Yard have to hand it over to German Army Intelligence or the SS (Nazis), but he is told to stay on and assist German SS Officer Huth to continue the investigation which ultimately involves stolen plans for an atomic bomb which the German Army is working on n secret on British soil. Archer gets mixed up with a beautiful American reporter (Kate Bosworth) and tries to decide which side he is on. Should he be on the side of the law and be blamed as a German collaborator or join the British Resistance?

SS-GB is an addictive mystery drama which uses alternate history to weave a satisfying five episode series. A solid cast, a great script, and good production design will make you want to watch more than one episode. You might even get through all five episodes in one sitting.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
ARCHER OF THE YARD- a fetaurette on the central detective character of the series
CREATING THE AESTHETIC OF SS-GB looks at the production design of the series
Also there is a Behind-the-Scenes featurette and previews for other BBC releases that play before the main menu.

This is a combo pack which consists of the series in high definition on blu-ray and the same series in standard definition on DVD. If releasing BBC shows like this mean more chance to get shows in high definition, I would accept this compromise instead of the BBC providing most shows on DVD or digital HD with no blu-ray releases.

FINAL ANALYSIS: SS-GB is a highly creative and addicting mystery. British Mystery fans and alternate history fans will enjoy SS-GB.
