Gloria (Anne Hathaway) goes back to her hometown after being kicked out by her boyfriend.  She is an unemployed writer and her life is a mess.  She reconnects with a childhood friend who owns a bar.  She finds out she has a connection to a monster that is terrorizing Seoul, South Korea.   COLOSSAL is an odd and inventive take on the monster movie and relationship genre.  It can also be seen as a metaphor for dealing with abusive relationships.  It is one of those movies you really want to go in cold knowing as little as possible and let the surprise and humor take you along for the ride.  Anne Hathaway is great in this odd cult classic, but you should check out COLOSSAL whether you are an art film lover or a monster movie fan.  You will be pleasantly surprised.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The Only extra is one deleted extended sequence and sadly no making-of material is to be found on this release.

Also included in the combo pack is the movie in standard definition on DVD and a code to download and stream a digital HD copy of COLOSSAL.

FINAL ANALYSIS: COLOSSAL is an enjoyable twist on the giant monster genre by the way of comedy.  Definitely worth a rental at least.
