CYBORG 2087 is your typical 1960s sci-fi movie with not much going for it. It is a B movie version of some of the same ideas that James Cameron would realize way better in the Terminator films years later. The movie has been newly re-mastered in HD for its US debut on blu-ray. CYBORG 2087 is a movie to fuel my sarcasm and I'm glad I have plenty of it for this one. A cyborg named Garth A7 (Michael Rennie) who travels back to 1966 from 2087 to stop the development of radio telepathy technology which has turned the future into a dystopia. He is searching for the scientist who is going to be testing it for the military and take him back to the future to show him what his technology will bring (and he uses a female scientist that he hypnotizes via radio telepathy to get help- sound sliek Garth needs some social manners for a cyborg from the future). However, the government of the future has sent their own agents (who look like some very bad tempered military police in silver boots and always wearing helmets with no attempt to blend in as they hunt for Garth- at least Garth tries to blend in by wearing an overcoat).

CYBORG 2087 was originally made to air on television along with DIMENSION 5 (both directed by the same guy- Franklin Adreon) and they were released theatrically. The obvious constraints of a TV movie budget is obvious by the use of practical locations and a Western town set along with a few sets (which looked like they were built on a TV budget and lit that way too). Michael Rennie shines in this movie above the rest of the cast despite the material given to him. CYBORG 2087 is a made for TV version of Terminator/ Terminator 2 without the budget or better realized ideas. It isn’t the best sci-fi movie and it was never destined to be a classic. If you're expecting an exciting sci-fi movie to watch, it depends on your expectations. My sarcasm helped me to get through watching it.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
The theatrical trailer for CYBORG 2087 can be found on You Tube, but sadly it isn't included on this blu-ray. All you get are previews for other releases from KL Studio Classics and an audio commentary by writer/ filmmaker Chris Alexander

FINAL ANALYSIS: CYBORG 2087 plays out too much like a poor man's version of TERMINATOR and TERMINATOR 2 without the effects and a good script. If you enjoy sci-fi B movies, you might want to see this one. If you're a fan of Michael Rennie, you will probably see this one. It is a movie I will probably watch once and remember it shortcomings as a movie.
