SYNOPSIS: Cru Jones (Bill Allen) is the best BMX biker in Cochrane. He's got the talent to become the best BMX daredevil in the world. As the local paperboy, he jumps, spins, twists, and flips his bike with amazing ability. Bart Taylor (Bart Conner) is the best BMX biker in the world, and he's in town to race in the $100,000 Helltrack competition, the most grueling BMX race in history. Cru wants a shot at winning the title, but his mom (Talia Shire) insists he take his SATs which fall on the same day. For the first time in his life, Cru has to make his own decision and he decides to go for Helltrack, but Duke Best (Jack Weston), the race promoter, has a dirty scheme for keeping the local whiz kid out of the race and away from his prized champion. Only the gorgeous Christian (Lori Loughlin), a member of the opposite team, can get Cru on track for Helltrack...and teach him a few things while she is at it!

ANALYSIS:
RAD is the cult movie I never heard of from the 1980s until recently when I saw a music video for Send Me An Angel which featured clips from the movie. It is an underdog story of a teen shooting for his dreams while the movie stays way too wholesome and cliché along the way. The BMX races and the BMX boogie dance are the highlight of the movie. The blu-ray disc was included in a combo pack with the 4K UHD disc. I will update the review in the future when I get a 4K UHD player, but please be aware that the RAD 4K UHD/ Blu-ray combo sold out quickly for Vinegar Syndrome.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
THE STUNTMAN DIRECTS- an interview with director Hal Needham as he remembers how he ended up directing the movie and stories about the production
WRITING SOMETHING RAD- interview with co-scriptwriter Sam Bernard
RAD 25- excerpts from the 25th anniversary event get together of fans with cast and crew
Also archival interview with cast and crew, archival featurettes, a music video for "Break The Ice", a still gallery, and the original theatrical trailer (which is in pretty good condition) are included on the blu-ray

FINAL ANALYSIS: RAD is an enjoyable cult movie. It is already sold out. The bike boogie dance is the high point of the movie. The extra selection is great, but it is a missed opportunity that the documentary about RAD couldn’t be including on this release of RAD.
