CSI: MIAMI had a more solid season this year than say CSI. However, the end of season 4 found the show borrowing a couple of plotlines seen in MIAMI VICE about 20 years ago. Horaito Caine finds love with the sister of one of his fellow CSIs. If you watched MIAMI VICE, you know how it will end. The season finale is great, but the fifth season opener is a disappointing conclusion. Then you have the ongoing arc of a mole in CSI unit which is resolved by the end of the season. I just wonder if they have the extended ending shown on CBS.com as part of one of the episodes. The fourth season also brought new blood in the form of actors Brendan Fehr (best known for his role as Michael on the sci-fi cult show ROSWELL) and the very lovely Eva La Rue. Yes, it still surprises me that this show is shot in California. I do wish Calleigh left the show at the end of season 3 and I'm liking Wolfe. CSI: MIAMI does handle the personal side of the characters better than the original CSI. By the way, David Caruso still poses and stares from behind those sunglasses. He has to strike that pose many times each season. It's his signature for his character. I know some will make fun of the posing, but I always liked the darker side of Horatio Caine. I just hope the writers give Caine a break soon. The show has put him through hell and still does.

VIDEO: 1.78:1 (Anamorphic Widescreen)

AUDIO: English 5.1, Spanish 2.0 Dolby Digital Surround

Subtitles: English Close Captioning

Picture and audio are top notch. The transfers are as goo as the ones done for the season 3 set.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

Six audio commentaries were recorded for this set. Again the cast members are nowhere to be found on the tracks. You get details on the production of the show.

FROM THE GRAVE with Elizabeth Devine, Karen Gaviola, and Chris Montesanto-Medcalf

PREY with Corey Miller and Scott Lautanen

FELONY FLIGHT with Anthony E. Zuiker, Elizabeth Devine, and Scott Lautanen

URBAN HELLRAISERS with Don Tardino, Matt Earl Beesly, and Eagle Eglisson

SHATTERED with Ildy Modrovich and Scott Lautanen

PAYBACK with Marc Dube and Sam Hill

The three featurettes on disc 7 (CREATING FEATURE TELEVISION (concept script and pre-production of CSI: MIAMI), PRODUCTING FEATURE TELEVSION: THE PRODUCTION OF CSI: MIAMI, FINISHING FEATURE TV: THE POST-PRODUCTION OF CSI: MIAMI) go into what any episode goes through from script to post-production. Prep for any episode is 8 days while it must be shot in 8 days, and one of the writers has three arcs planned for Horatio Caine (the first 3 seasons dealt with hsi brother, the current seasons deal with his past while seasons 7 to 9 will deal with something else). The episode highlighted in the featurettes is DRIVEN and mostly dealing with the spa sequence.

FINAL ANALYSIS: The fourth season set shows that CSI: MIAMI is finding it's legs. I hope the cast members actually show up for the audio commentaries for the fifth season set next year.
