The Achilles spaceship is sent on a journey to the orbit of Mars to investigate a mysterious black sphere that is discovered to emit a transmission that says one word (Deus) which means God. The six person crew has wakened from eight months of hibernation and finds their world thrown into chaos as the sphere gives humanity a choice, but Karla Grey (Claudia Black) has serious doubts behind the purpose of the sphere and why she was sent on this mission after the personal tragedy that claimed her family.

DEUS seems like 2001 meets EVENT HORIZON but it has layers that make it more satisfying than SUNSHINE. Claudia Black is the star of this movie and it makes you wish she has done more lead actor work since her days on FARSCAPE and STARGATE SG-1. I do wish the story was a little more fleshed out and you cared for the other characters and not just Karla Grey. She has the right qualities to lead a show or movie when given the right role. Make sure to stay through the end credits for the end credit scene. So I hope someone will write something great for her soon instead of having her being a guest player on a TV show or movie while turning more to voice acting work for video games and animation.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
The only extra is a trailer for DEUS

FINAL ANALYSIS: Claudia Black makes this interesting sci-fi movie shine and makes you wonder when someone will write her another great leading role for her. DEUS could have had a better story and characters, but Claudia Black and the ideas behind the movie is what saves DEUS from being a turd.
