RETURN TO SILENT HILL is a little frustrating at times compared to director Christophe Gan's superior earlier pictures such
as SILENT HILL and his best film THE BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF. He manages to create a very visual world with this movie (because
he spent a year storyboarding it) and it has a haunting music score. The actors are well cast, but sometimes the budget doesn't
stretch enough for all of the visual effects and sometimes the script gets lost.
An artist is drawn back to find the girl he loved in the Silent Hill only to be sucked into the nightmare hellscape that
Silent Hill has become. RETURN TO SILENT HILL is interesting to watch at times while sometimes you think the budget could
have been more as the story manages to escape the people making it. I know the director wanted to be more faithful to the
games than he was with the first SILENT HILL, but I think I liked the writing of the first two ISLENT HILL movies than this
one.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
This Collector's Edition Blu-ray has several quick behind-the-scenes featurettes that makes me wish they had a longer
in-depth making-of documentary. The featurettes have a mix of behind-the-scenes footage, clips from the movies, and interviews
with cast and crew
The blu-ray also has a theatrical trailer for the movie.
FINAL ANALYSIS: RETURN TO SILENT HILL is visually beautiful to look at with a haunting score, but it doesn't come close
to the best films from Christophe Gans. I do wish there were more extras and I think Walmart fumbled by not offering their
4K steelbook in stores (and being only online).
